Today is a big day for us at My MacDaddy. Apple is rolling out brand new versions of its MacBook Air ultra-slim laptops (still available in 11″ and 13″ versions), the Mac Mini, a new LED Cinema Display (all of them equipped with Thunderbolt) and a whole new version of the Mac OS X operating System, named Lion.
Lion comes with over 250 new features, and will also include a lot of “under the hood” improvements over Snow Leopard. Unlike any previous Apple operating system, it will be available without needing a disc– you can download it online from the Mac App Store. In fact, Apple won’t be selling any discs for it. But don’t worry– if you have any trouble downloading it, we at My MacDaddy can bring a disc with us to help you.
It’s all very exciting, but at the same time, we at MacDaddy recommend waiting at least a week before installing  a brand new operating system. Now is a great time, though, to do your Software Updates and make sure you’re all backed up.
In order to obtain Lion, you’ll need to have Snow Leopard on your Mac, and you’ll need 2 GB of RAM, 7 GB of storage space, and one of the following Intel processors: the Core 2 Duo, the Core i3, the Core i5, the Core i7 or the Xeon.
Some of the flashiest features of Lion will include:
– New Multi-Touch Gestures (making it even easier to switch applications, zoom in to see something better, scroll through a document or webpage, and much more)
– Full Screen Apps (so you can use every millimeter of your screen space for the application you’re working on)
– Mission Control (gives you a bird’s-eye view of everything running on your Mac)
– Launchpad (taking a cue from the iPhone and iPad, it makes it easier than ever to access all your apps)
– Resume (as in resume what you were doing– it let’s you restart your Mac, returning to exactly how you left it)
– Autosave (for those of us who have lost hours of important work because we forgot to click Command-S, this will be a welcome new feature)
– AirDrop (makes it easy to share files (encrypted for your security) with other folks in your immediate viscinity)
– and a whole new version of the Mail application
Let us know if you have any questions– and happy computing!
